Wingfield’s motive for arson, attempted murder, said to be prompted by being jilted by woman

Criminal Investigation Division, Niagara Falls Police Department:
In response to many inquiries: Jerome Wingfield was wanted for domestic violence charges when he then shot the male he incorrectly thought was on a relationship with the DV victim.
Wingfield was arraigned Friday January 8th in Niagara Falls City Court on charges of: Attempted Murder 2nd degree, Assault 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree
The charges resulted from an investigation into the shooting of victim, Darius Washington on December 7th, 2015 at 8:05 pm in the 200 block of 22nd St in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
Washington was hit by several bullets which struck him in both legs, his hip, abdomen and groin area. Washington spent several weeks in ECMC receiving treatment for his injuries.
Wingfield was already in police custody after being arrested on January 2nd for the arson that occurred at 1967 Niagara St. on the night of January 1st
