The Niagara Falls City Democratic Committee is expected to meet next Wednesday, Aug. 14, to formally endorse Democratic primary winner Robert Restaino for mayor of Niagara Falls.

 “There’s no question Bob Restaino is our candidate,” says Niagara County Democratic Chairman Jayson Zona who declined to speculate on Seth Piccirillo’s plans, but Piccirillo’s campaign headquarters is no longer active and while he won the Working Family’s party line in the primary, there’s no indication he will campaign on that line although he has made no formal announcement.  The city’s community development director under current Mayor Paul Dyster ran a strong primary campaign against Restaino, but lost in a close race.

Former Mayor Vince Anello told this newspaper after the primary that it would be best for Piccirillo to support the Democratic primary winner to protect the line in the general election in November against Republican Glenn Choolokian.  Choolokian has the GOP line but he has not been formally endorsed by the city committee.  All indications now are that Piccirillo will not run as a possible spoiler in the general election.

Democratic party sources are hoping that Piccirillo will make his plans known publicly very shortly.

On Wednesday, August 7th, Piccirillo’s campaign headquarters on Buffalo Avenue was stripped of all campaign-related material. According to a source close to the campaign, it is indeed a signal that the campaign is over.
