More Changes to Niagara County Clerk’s Office Amid State of Emergency

Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski today announced an update to the operations of his office based on Executive Order 202.8 of NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo that is in effect until April 19, 2020. The order includes:
- The extension of validity of any Driver’s License, Non-Driver Identification or registration expiring on or after March 1, 2020
- The extension of validity of any temporary registration document issued by a NYS Dealer
- Deadline dates in court proceedings (i.e. statutes of limitations, motions, etc.) are hereby tolled.
- A 90-day stay on foreclosures
“All DMV operations across the state are now shut down along with notary requests, veterans cards and passports,” said Jastrzemski. “For the title companies that lease space in our office, they are permitted to enter but they must abide by social distancing guidelines.”
Jastrzemski said the Clerk’s Office will continue to provide service for attorney real estate closing and land record documents through mail, E-Record, E-File and the blue bucket Drop Off located outside the County Clerk’s Office in the County Courthouse in Lockport. Instruction s for E-Record and E-File are available on the County Clerk’s website.
“We have multiple avenues to keep real estate and land transactions going,” said Jastrzemski. “For those who choose to use the Drop Off buckets, it is imperative that they include a contact name, phone number and whether they would like their receipt mailed or emailed.”
Jastrzemski emphasized these operational changes are all subject to change based on continued direction from the Governor.
“The situation remains fluid,” said Jastrzemski. “These most recent changes could be extended or they could be shortened as events unfold. I will do my best to keep the public informed.”
